A recent survey in Nature showed that 60% of young researchers are making future career decisions from the internet. Is that good? While I love Youtube, Intsa and SnapChat, I don’t see a lot about rigorous capability building for future careers in science!
Note that only 20% of young researchers are purposefully accessing training or career advice. And after the internet the most trusted messengers are internal to the system.
There are some excellent programs that Universities run for our next generation to access. I wonder if there is more we can do to support them from within the system to be skilled and understand more purposefully how to spring into rewarding science outside of academia… which is where most will find a career.
Interesting stats. #scienceimpact #research #science
