National Webinars - Uptake of Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) Flooding Climate Change Considerations Guidance

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water sought assistance to facilitate stakeholder workshops focused on improving uptake of updated Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) Flooding Climate Change Considerations guidance across Australian jurisdictions. The project aimed to build on current guidance use by various jurisdictions and accelerate adoption through shared learning and collaboration. DCCEEW wanted a process online for each jurisdiction that always showcased jurisdictional representatives who had successfully implemented the guidance and facilitate knowledge sharing sessions to help others in their implementation journey.

What we did

The project leveraged our existing climate adaptation expertise and government networks, with support from Scientell Pty Ltd for workshop design, delivery and report outputs.

  • We developed a standard workshop approach including detailed agendas and run sheets, managed online logistics, the sequencing of jurisdictions, establishing registration portals, and coordinating invitations across all Australian states and territories.

  • We ran 10 online workshops (2.5 hours each) in late February 2025

  • Co-developed with DCCEEW the reporting requirements and delivering a comprehensive final report series analysing themes, barriers, and trends across jurisdictions, with recommendations for improved guidance uptake. As well as an insights report for DCCEEW with suggestions to enable better uptake of the new guidance.

The Result

While the DCCEEW Insights report is confidential, the extensive report series is available online here including presentations and details from each workshop, as well as an overall collation of ideas and feedback. Scroll down to the Updated climate change guidance section on this page.
